The Security Committee of the Albanian Parliament approved the bill on gun only through the votes of the ruling majority.
The Socialist MPs in the Committee opposed the bill, saying that its approval during an election campaign is questionable and that the quality of the draft is poor.
The Socialists say that the law which provides that officials may carry guns imply the concerning fact that Members of Parliament are expected to be trained in gun license schools and according to them the issue “will end as car licenses that are granted even to the incompetent drivers.”
The new law on guns aims to regulate the conditions for the acquisition, possession, manufacture, marketing, sale, transportation and importation of arms and ammunition within Albanian territory, as well as exporting them abroad.
