Robert De Niro was in Serbia in 1967. Although it’s been more than 40 years, Čokot,  small Moravian village near  Niš, the villagers still have fresh memories of the days when in their village came Robert de Niro,  in that time just  the anonymous student, and today one of the most famous Hollywood actors. Skinny and handsome young man.  For that time, he had an unusually long hair, like hippie. Robert himself said in an interview that he was a hippie.  With villagers, he picked vegetables with them and took a horse drawn cart to the local marketplace. He went out of the village, so unexpectedly appeared after a month to borrow money by offering a camera in pledge, because he robbed a nearby gas station.

“The whole village has been noticed the arrival of Robert.  Such long hair, no one here dared to have. In that time, Robert was not famous. Who could guess that he will become one of the most famous actors. He was not ashamed to be harvested tomatoes. If he decides to come back, we’ll make a big celebration in his name.” – says one of the villagers, Lile.

Locals have  even found a picture of him from that time. The photograph shows Robert who plays the traditional Serbian dance – kolo.
