The new technologies for easier life of blind people

A small step toward big changes is the motto of a new project of British guy David Bailey and NGO „Fontana“ from Banja Luka. The main goal of this project is to learn blind people how to use Android and iPhone applications and involve them in online community.

David Bailey, the author of the project, thinks that Voice Over and audioboo.fm apps can significantly improve quality of life of these persons who are still at the margins of society.

„We plan to get several Androids and iPhones. In the first phase we want to learn young people how to work with these new apps considering the fact we talk about the tecnology that isn`t rather available for them here in BiH“, says Bailey.

He added that these methods have been already used in Europe and USA where they had made great success.

The volunteers from „Fontana“ will also take a part in this project. They`ve already done similar projects that helped with employing the blind people.

„We`ve realized that young people are interested in new tecnologies as well as possibility of socialization and we think this project could significantly improve their knowledge about these new tecnologies“ says Ivana Simundza, „Fontana“ activist.

One of the successfull examples of the „Fontana“ activities was project „Radio-media which provides the equal chance for everyone“. This project was implemented together with Youth Communication Centre-Radio Balkan Banja Luka and it was financially supported by Center for Civil Initiatives (CCI).
